Experimental investigation and mechanism exploration on reaction between Mg and water

The effects of different additives,content of additive and re-modified surface of magnesium powder on magnesium/water reaction at low temperature were investigated by measuring the generation quantity of hydrogen.The results show that most of the selected additives can accelerate magnesium/water reaction and promote generation of hydrogen.With the increase of the additives content,the generation quantity of hydrogen increases to a certain extent,but it is not a linear relationship.The re-modification of the surface of magnesium powder can not only promote generation quantity of hydrogen,but also improve storage performance of Mg powder.It is concluded that the additives can change pH value of reaction system,which accelerates magnesium/water reaction.
