The present paper investigates the vibration modal theory of composite structures constructed with elastic and viscoelastic materials. The equation of motion that comes in the form of integrodifferential equations is transformed into the first order differential equation in state space. The mokal analysis is carried out. The concepts of 'vibrating modal set' and 'creeping modal set' are proposed. And impulsive response matrix and transfer function matrix are defined and discussed in detail. Finally sample problems are giver to support the theory developed in this paper.
