THE DETERMINATION OF TRACE PHOSPHORUS BY USING FLUORESCENCE QUENCHING OF RHODAMINE 6G WITH MOLYBDOPHOSPHATE

A simple method for determination of phosphorus in natural water by using fluorescence quenching of rhodamine 6G with molybdophosphate is described. The fluorescence intensity of rhodamine 6G was diminished by molybdophosphate which was formed by reaction between orthophosphate and molybdaten hydrochloric acid medium. The diminished fluorescence intensity of rhodamine 6G waspropotional to the concentration of phosphorus in aq. solution (at Ex 350nm, EM 550nm). The colibration curve covered 0—10 ppb of phosphorus. The relative standard variation of 6 determinations of 5 ppb phosphorus was 9% and the addition recoveries of 3—5 ppb spiked phosphorus were 96—107%. Several foreign ions were tested and no interferences were observed. The present method is sensitive, accurate and easy to operate. It can be used for direct determination of phosphorus in natural water without preseparation.
