Managing the Growth of China's Cities: Planning for Sustainable, Competitive and Efficient Cities
China's current rapid economic development is bringing enormous benefits to its own people and to the global economy. The challenge for city planners is to manage the development generated by this growth in an efficient, competitive and susiainable way. The author suggest 4 principles for managing urban growth: Providing a strong spatial structure to manage urban growth; Managing growth in ways that make fullest use of resources, including finance and natural resources; Promoting 'sustainable communities'; Using planning as an aid in making Chinese cities more competitive.
