Reactive power optimization in oil-field distribution networks based on improved genetic algorithm

Genetic algorithm is one of optimization methods to simulate the evolution of creature and can be used to resolve complicated optimization problems containing discrete variables.This paper presents a new approach to deal with problems of reactive power optimization in oil-field distribution systems based on an improved genetic algorithm.This new approach improves the traditional genetic algorithm on the way of coding,genetic operations and termination conditions and saves the calculation time and raises the capability to optimize.The result from an oil-field distribution network shows that the improved genetic algorithm is reasonable and feasible.
