Study on Laser-remelted Ceramic Coatings of TiAl Alloy Surface

An experiment of laser remelting was carried out to fabricate nanostructured Al2O3-13%TiO2(weight percentage) coatings on TiAl alloys which had been prepared by plasma spraying.The cross-sectional morphology,microhardness and wear resistance of ceramic coatings were investigated using scanning electron microscopy,microhardness measurement and wear tester.The results show that the plasma-sprayed coating has some defects,the high porosity for example,although its structure is rather compact.However,the laser-remelted coating has more compact structure,higher hardness and much better wear-resistance than plasma-sprayed coating does.
