Comparison of protective effect of zinc and molybdenum on subacute renal damage induced by cadmium

Objective To study the protective effect of trace elements on subacute toxic renal damage induced by cadmium.Methods Subacute cadmium poisoning model was prepared with cadmium chloride in rats to induce obvious renal damage.After pretreated with zinc and molybdenum,the rats were given the same dose of cadmium chloride.The renal function was determined in cadmium group,zinc and cadmium group,and molybdenum and cadmium group.Results The urine vulume didn′t change significantly,but cadmium excreted by urine decreased,cadmium level in kidnry increased markedly in zinc and cadmium group.By contrast,in molybdenum and cadmium group,the urine vulume and urine cadmium increased markedly,cadmium level in kidnry decreased significantly.Ronal function in two groups was ameliorated to a different extent.Conclusions Zinc and molybdenum might have protective effect on subacute toxic renal damage induced by cadmium.This provides a new way in prophylaxis and treatment of cadmium poisoning.
