The five trace element contents (Zn. Cu, Mn. Mo and Se) in the serum were detected in 33 patients with gastric cancer and 79 control'The results showed that the content of serum Se in the patients with gastric cancer was significant lower than that of the controls(P 0.002). The similar result was also detected in the serum Mo (PO.05).Our group had reported the negative corelation between the effective Mo content in soil and the mortality rate of gastric cancer in Jiangxi province. Compared to the controls, the level of Mo was remarkable decrease in the hair of the patients with gastric cancer. It is well known that Se plays an important role in inhibitting free-radical reaction and eliminating superoxide. We suggested that the level of serum Mo and Se was corelative with the pathogenesis of gastric cancer. A lack of Mo and Se may cause the increasing of incidence rate of gastric cancer.
