High performance silicon carbide engineering ceramic  
Silicon carbide is very promised candidate material for heat engine and other engineering applications, because it possess unique high temperature strength, better resistance to corrosion and oxidation and other excellent properties. The author presents recent development of silicon carbide with high performance and analyzes the effect of the various fabrication processes on its properties. The characters of several kinds of commercial SiC are presented, in order to compare with that of the recent developing SiC materials of our institute. Finally, This paper discribes some key questions, including the design problem of brittle materials and reproducibility and reliability of ceramic, those must be focused on studies in the near fulure.
