Dry Process Preparation of Oxidized Starch by Microwave Irradiation

Cassava starches were used as raw material,hydrogen-peroxide as oxidizer and CuSO_4 as catalyst to synthesize oxidized starch with dry process by microwave irradiation.The effect of the amount of catalyst and hydrogen-peroxide,reaction time,amount of water and microwave irradiation power on the degree of oxidation was investigated.Experimental results showed that the suitable conditions were:the weight ratio of starch:CuSO_4∶H_2O_2∶water was 100∶0.06∶10∶30;reaction time 3 min at 180W and pH=7,the carboxyl content could reach 0.9%.Microwave irradiation could greatly speed up the reaction rate and the reaction time was just a few minutes.
