A method for measuring refractive index with OCT images

Based on the principle of optical path matching,a method of measuring a sample's refractive index using the images obtained by an optical coherence tomography(OCT)system is presented.By analyzing the principle of the optical path matching,the theory of measuring the refractive index of a sample using OCT images and its process are given.Then experiments with glass slides and cucumber tissue as samples are carried.Experimental results show that the test results of the refractive index of a glass slide and tissue of cucumber using the method are 1.499 and 1.353,respectively,which accord with the published or known refractive indexes.The random error of measuring results is less than 0.01.In addition,using the method a sample's refractive index anywhere in a transverse scanning range could be measured at the same time by collecting just two OCT images in very short time.The method is a fast and applied method in which its measuring process based on the principle of optical path matching is further simplified and measuring time is shortened.
