The Development of Heat Source Models for Numerical Simulation of Welding Processes

Numerical simulation of welding process is a hot topic in material processing fields and is getting more popularized application.This thesis introduces the development of heat source models for numerical simulation of welding processes.Heat source models with Gaussian,semi-ellipsoid,ellipsoid,double-ellipsoid distributed have been frequently used in numerical simulation of welding processes,but the computation efficiency is low.In order to simplify the calculation,they were replace by segmented moving Gaussian heat source model,Gaussian string heat source model,segmented moving double ellipsoid heat source mode,in which computation efficiency can be greatly improved while high precision is maintained.Numerical simulation of heat input for complex welding can be dealt with by applying birth-death element technology to simulate the filling process of welding metal.
