Optimum slope design based on seismic force

ZHAO Tao,SHE Xue-sen(Key Laboratory for Special Area Highway Engineering of Ministry of Education, Chang'an University,Xi'an 710070,China)  
The vertical force and horizontal force that occur in earthquake are considered according to the Bishop method.A destruction model of slope is established,and whether the absence of the steps will influence the seismic performance of the slope is analyzed,and the step width influence the seismic performance of the slope is also analyzed.The numerical results given by a calculation program developed by the authors indicates that it will correspond to a critical width of step when the slope comes from the unstable state to the critical state under the load of earthquake,which provides significant reference for the design of slope.
