Studies on heterosis and combining ability of yield in bitter gourd (Momordica charantica L.)

Eight inbred lines of green bitter gourd were selected to design an experiment in Grffings diallel mating schemeⅡ, heterosis and combining ability effect of bitter gourd yield were studiedThe results showed as follows: Twentysix of 28 hybrids exhibited positive heterosis over mid-parent,twenty-three exhibited positive heterosis superior parent,twerty-two had higher yield than CK;in 8 parents tested,general combining ability effect of 4 parents showed positive effect,other4 parents showed negative effect,the value of general combining ability effect of B parent was significantly higher than other parents; spcific combining ability effect of 21 hybrids between mother and father exhibited positive effect,the hybrid E×H(215)had the highest value of effect,followed by B×H(151),D×E(128),A×G(123) and C×G(105)Selection and selective mating of parents of yield potential breeding in bitter gourd was discussed in this paper
