Feeding experiment on Jinling broiler with Gynostemma pentaphylla additive

The powder of Gynostemma pentaphylla was used as additive to feed Jinling broiler,and the acute toxicity test of Gynostemma pentaphylla was conducted.The results showed that the effect of Gynostemma pentaphylla additive on the average daily increase weight,ratio of feed to meat and death rate of broiler with 50-63 growth days were very obvious,especially in the 0.5% treatment group,the difference was very significant as compared to the control,and the feed application rate was 35.1% higher than that of the control,the daily increase weight was 49% higher than that of the control.Moreover,the difference between 1% treatment group and the control was also significant,the feed application rate of 1% treatment group increased 23.1% and the daily increase weight increased 32.4%.For other groups of different growth days of broiler,the difference in the ratio of feed to meat and the average daily increase weight was not obvious as compared to the control,but it could decrease the death rate and increase the anti-heat stress ability for broiler.The results of chicken meat identification showed that Gynostemma pentaphylla could improve the chicken meat quality and deepen the yellow of skin.The results of acute toxicity test indicated that the LD50 of Gynostemma pentaphylla was 972.75 mg/kg,and the tested Gynostemma pentaphylla was of nontoxic grade and no toxic effect on animal.Therefore,as a green additive,Gynostemma pentaphylla has significant importance for increasing the animal productivity.
