Analysis on relationship between color and chemical components in flue-cured tobacco leaves

The correlation and stepwise regression analysis between color index and main chemical components of 117 flue-cured tobacco samples were conducted.The results showed that there existed significant correlation between different color index and chemical components in tobacco leaves.The a(red degree) in leaves was significantly and positively correlated with the nicotine,total nitrogen and protein,while it was significantly and negatively correlated with total sugar,reducing sugar,ratio of sugar to nicotine,ratio of sugar to protein.The L(brightness degree),b(red degree),C(saturation) and H(tincture) in tobacco leaves were significantly and negatively correlated with the nicotine,total nitrogen and protein,while they were significantly and positively correlated with the total sugar,reducing sugar,ratio of sugar to nicotine,ratio of sugar to protein,and were not correlated with chlorine and starch.The step regression analysis indicated that the total nitrogen had the highest negative effect on L in leaves,nicotine had the highest effect on a in leaves,protein had the highest effect on b and C,and ratio of nitrogen to nicotine and protein had the highest influence on H.Therefore,tobacco color had a closer relationship with chemical components,and could reflect the inner chemical quality of tobacco leaf.
