INVESTIGATION ON MECHANISM OF REACTION OF ZEOLITE IN THE HYDRATION OF CEMEMT

1. The nature of the reaction of zeolite in the hydration of cement has been found to bethat of acid and alkali reaction rather than cxchange of ions. 2. The process of reaction is referred to be the initial detachment of alumina from theframework of zeolite in saturated lime solution followed by libration of active silica fromthe remaint of zeolite.The active silica then reacts with Ca(OH)_2 to form hydrated calciumsilicate. 3.As an admixture of cement, zeolite is more active in crystalline state than its glass ofsame chemical composition. 4.The optimum content of zeolite in the blended cement has been determined to be 15~20%, the maxium content being 45%. 5.A portion of zeolite has been found to remain in the hydrating cement which may beconceived by the fact that the reaction of zeolite with Ca(OH)_2 seldom proceeds to complc-tion.
