KINETICS OF REACTION IN THE SYSTEM FLY ASH-Ca(OH)_2-H_2O

In the present paper, the degree of reaction of fly ash in the system fly ash-Ca(OH)_2-H_2O is correlated with the strength of fly ash-Ca(OH)_2 pastes.pH value of fly ash suspension in water is found to be an index characterizing the chemical activity of fly ash.It is confirmed by chemical analyses that sulfate is an accelerate agent of fly ash-Ca(OH)_2-H_2O reaction. An addition of 3%Na_2SO_4 to the fly ash-Ca(OH)_2 mixture doubles the degree of reaction within 7~28 days. The mechanism of acceleration is studied based on a comparison test and SEM observation.A plot of strength of fly ash-Ca(OH)_2 pastes versus the degree of reaction of fly ash shows a good correlationship between them.
