STUDY ON MECHANICAL ACTIVATION SYNTHESIS OF NANO-CRYSTAL ALUMINIUM NITRIDE

The nanocrystal aluminum nitride was synthesized by carbothermal reduction (CTR) from alumina. The effects of mechanical activation on aluminum nitride conversion were investigated. The results show that aluminum nitride start to form at 1 000 ℃ and the conversion ratio of aluminum nitride from alumina increases after mechanical activation. The activation energy decrease from 529 kJ/mol to 457 kJ/mol. The crystallite size of aluminum nitride with mechanical activation is 29 nm and the particle size is 8 μm which obey the logarithmic-canonic distribution.
