Using purified Na-montmorillonite as the starting material and Ti(nC_4H_9O)_4 as the titanium resource,Ti-pillared clay(TiPILCs)nanocomposites were prepared.The composition,structure and properties of the Ti-PILCs were studied by X-ray diffraction(XRD),thermogravimetry and differential scanning calorimetry(TGDSC),Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) spectroscopy,and nitrogen adsorption desorption.The results of XRD show the interlayer free spacing of Ti-PILCs has polydispersity,and the value of d_((001)) increases from 1.28 nm of sodium montmorillonite to 3.59 nm at most. The TGDSC curves show the mass loss of Ti-PILCs after heating are more than the sodium montmorillonite and the delineation between the course of water desorption in the interlayer and desorption in the hydroxyl is not clear.Measurement of the specific surface area shows that it increases from the 31.6 m~2/g of the sodium montmorillonite to 400 m~2/g of Ti-PILCs and changes little with increased temperature.The pore size distribution shows the sodium montmorillonite and Ti-PILCs have house-of-cards-like pores physically aggregated and Ti-PILCs has many two-dimensional pores of 2-4 nm formed by pillars.The FTIR results further verified that Ti-PILCs has vibration peaks of Ti-O and Ti-O-Si,which show the materials are titanium-pillared porous clay nanocomposites.
