EFFECTS OF MnO_2 ON STRUCTURE AND PROPERTIES OF CERAMIC LAYER OF CERAMIC LINED COMPOUND PIPES BY THE SELF-PROPAGATING HIGH-TEMPERATURE SYNTHESIS

Ceramic-lined composite steel pipe with an Al_2O_3 and FeAl_2O_4 ceramic layer was prepared by the self-propagating high-temperature synthesis method using MnO_2 powder as additive,and the effects of MnO_2 on the structure and mechanical proper- ties of the ceramic layer and interlayer were studied.The results show that the microstructure of the surface on the ceramic layer with MnO_2 added is denser than that without MnO_2 added.And inner surface on the ceramic layer is stackup Al_2O_3 cryptomere and less FeAl_2O_4.The interlayer is composed of Al_2O_3 and FeAl_2O_4,exception,also contain a few of SiO_2 and MnO_2.A net-like structure penetrating from the interlayer to the steel appears after MnO_2 has been added.The phases in the ceramic layer with MnO_2 added are Al_2O_3 and FeAl_2O_4,the same as that without MnO_2 added.The compression strength of the composite pipe and the shearing strength of the ceramic layer are 416 MPa under 4%(in mass) MnO_2 and 19.2 MPa,18.2% and 12.3% greater than without MnO_2 added.
