Low viscosity alumina slurries with high solid content were prepared by the colloidal formation process and using mixed alumina powders with different particles sizes.Two commercial alumina powders with different particle size distributions (the aver- age particle sizes were 0.97μm and 2.18μm) were blended in different proportions,and the rheological behavior of the aqueous slur- ries was analyzed.The effect of various contents of dispersant on the rheological properties of alumina slurries stabilized with static dispersant or polymeric dispersant was studied.The results show that the viscosity of the slurries is lowest when the particle size dis- tribution is closest to the ideal Dinger distribution.The viscosity of the slurries increases when there is too little or too much dispers- ant.The polymeric dispersant is more effective in reducing the viscosity of high solid loading slurry.
