EXPRESSION AND SIGNIFICANCE OF EGFR AND EGFRvⅢ IN HUMAN BENIGN MAMMARY HYPERPLASIA AND BREAST CANCER

Objective:To study the function of EGFR and EGFRvⅢ in human benign mammary hyperplasia and breast cancer. Methods: RT-PCR and SupervisionTM immunohistochemical staining (IHC) were used to detect the expressions of EGFR and EGFRvⅢ in 30 specimens of human benign mammary hyperplasia tissues,55 specimens of human breast cancer tissues, all their adjacent non-cancerous mammary tissues and metastasis lymph nodes. Result: The positive rate of EGFR and EGFRvⅢ in group of breast cancer tissues was significantly higher than that in benign mammary tumor tissues(P0.05)while there was extremely little chance of positive expression of EGFRvⅢ in adjacent non-cancerous mammary and normal breast tissues; A significant correlation of the expressions of EGFR, EGFRvⅢ and pathologic grades, the number of local metastasis LN (≥4)(P0.05), in addition, the over-expression of EGFR and EGFRvⅢ was irrelative with the factors such as age, menopauses, tumor size and ER、PR; it was inverse correlation of the expression of c-erbB-2 and EGFRvⅢ, but negative of EGFR.Conclusion: Over-expressed EGFR and EGFRvⅢ may be really related to initiation and progression of breast cancer. These results were indicated that, whereas, EGFRvⅢ could be considered as the marker for predicting the initiation and prognosis of human breast cancer.
