Exact boundary controllability of unsteady flows in open canals

By means of the existence and uniqueness of semiglobal C~1 solution to the mixed initial-boundary value problem for first order quasi-linear hyperbolic systems and the corresponding theory on the exact boundary controllability, the exact boundary controllability of unsteady flows modelled by Saint-Venant equations in both a single canal and a string-like network of canals with control given by gates under water is esteblished.The cases with spillways are also considered.
