Ethnicity and Gender in HIV/AIDS Studies in China

JING Jun,HUAN Jian-li(Tsinghua University,Beijing 100084,China;University of Science & Technology Beijing,Beijing 100083,China)
Ethnicity and gender are two crucial variables of social research in HIV prevention. This paper critically reviews the contributions made by Chinese sociologists and anthropologists toward HIV prevention in terms of ethnic differences and gender inequality.Although social research on HIV has a short history in China,it deserves a review as it has played an active role in discourses on a highly sensitive issue.Such an effort will also benefit applied social research in the future.
