CYTOLOGICAL OBSERVATIONS ON THE MEIOSIS OF PMC AND POLLEN DEVELOPMENT OF TETRAPLOID IN ACTINIDIA CHINENSIS

The process of the meiosis of pollen mother cells and pollen develop-ment of male tetraploid plants (2n=4x=116) has been investigated in Actinidiachinensis Planch., which stemmed from Jiangxi province and were cultivated inWuhan. In diakinesis and metaphase Ⅰ, the 116 chromosomes form a number oftypical bivalents in addition to 1--2 ring or chain multivalents. The cytoplasmdivision of PMC is of simultaneus type, as is often found in dicotyls. Maturepollen grains are of two-celled type with a long-ellipse--shaped generative cell and avegetative cell which is round-shaped, bigger and much more paler than the gener-ative cell.
