Pollen vitality and stigma receptivity of Paeonia lactiflora Pall

Pollen viability and lifespan of Paeonia lactiflora Pall. was evaluated by TTC(2,3,5triphenyl tetrazolium chloride)test,its stigma receptivity was estimated by benzidineH2O2 method. The results were as follows: As to cultivated species,the pollen viability of P. lactiflora Pall. with simple flower was the same as that of P. lactiflora Pall. with double flower at the beginning of blooming. But the pollen viability declination of P. lactiflora Pall with double flower was quicker than that of P. lactiflora Pall with simple flower. In general,the lifespan of cultivated species was about 7 days. The stigma of cultivated P.lactiflora Pall with some simple flower could secret mucus 2 hour after blooming. As long as the stigma of cultivated P. lactiflora Pall with double flower was concerned,some didn't secret mucus all the time,others secreted mucus 2 days after blooming. The stigma receptivity of single cultivated plant was higher than that of cultivated P. lactiflora Pall. with double flower. Generally,they had receptivity within 6 days or 3 days after blooming. The pollen viability declination of wild P. lactiflora Pall was slower and its lifespan was longer than that of cultivated species. The lifespan of wild species was about 15 days,and its stigma receptivity and mucus secretion was higher than that of cultivated species.
