Effect of Heavy Metals on Degradation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons by Yeast

Effects of heavy metals Cu2+、Zn2+、Pb3+ and Cr3+ on the growth of yeast(Yarrowia lipolytica Tzyx3)and its ability of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)degradation are studied.The results showthat the activated yeastgrows better in heavy metals and Tzyx3 is adaptable for high loading of Cu2+ and Zn2+ and has good adaptability to Pb3+ and Cr3+.There exist diversities for effect of heavy metals on degradation of PAHs by Tzyx3 but less influences on degradation rate of naphthalene(Nap)and phenanthrene(PhA). Degradation rate of fluoranthene(FluA)does not decline but rise,and pyrene(Pyr)degradation is inhibited by heavy metals. Tzyx3 has good effect on the degradation of PAHswhen heavy metals exist and the degradation rates of Nap,PhA、FluA and Pyr can reach 89.75%,88.55%,68.40% and 64.15% respectively after15 days.
