Promotional effect of silver on NO decomposition over Pd/Al_2O_3 catalyst

The promotional effect of silver on NO decomposition over Pd/Al_2O_3 catalyst was investigated. Pd/Al_2O_3 catalyst was inactive for the decomposition at low temperature, but the activity increased rapidly when reaction temperature rised to 720 ℃. O_2-temperature-programmed desorption(TPD) studies showed that supported PdO decomposed to metallic palladium by desorbing oxygen around (720 ℃).Therefore, desorption of oxygen is regarded as the rate controlling step for the catalytic decomposition at temperature lower than (720 ℃). Addition of silver into Pd/Al_2O_3 increased its activity for the decomposition. O_2-TPD studies indicated that the enhancement of activity of Pd-Ag/Al_2O_3 catalyst attributes to decrease in the temperature required for desorption of oxygen.
