CONTROL OF COUPLED TRANSLATION-TORSION VIBRATION OF STRUCTURE

This paper illustrates the practical considerations and vibration control effectiveness of tuned mass damper(TMD)for coupled translation-torsion structure.The TMD is designed to control the mode which makes most contribution to the largest response of the structure.The optimal system parameters of TMD are then calculated by minimizing the mean-square modal displacement response ration of controlled mode between the structure with and without TMD under earthquake excitation.Numerical and statistical results from a long torsion structure verify that the proposed optimal TMD are able to reduce the structure response effectively.
