A PRELIMINARY ANALYSIS OF CHAOTIC FEATURES OF THE PRECIPITATION FLUCTUATIONS IN NORTHWEST CHINA

Based on the monthly normalized rainfall series in 30 meteorological stations in Northwest China, the attractor′s dimension and predictable period are estimated.The results show that the fractal dimensions are between 3.7 to 6.2 in Northwest China. There are small fractal dimensions in extreme dry areas. The average predictability time scale is about 2~3 months according to Renyi entropy K 2.
