Applicability Evaluation of Surface Air Temperature from Several Reanalysis Datasets in China

Applicability of2 m temperature from the ERA-40,NCEP/NCAR,NCEP/DOE and JRA-25 reanalysis areevaluated according to climate mean,interannual variation and variability,and climate trends,respectively in different regions,different periods and seasons using the stationobservations in China.The results indicate that these reanalyzed products all can be employed to study the climate change in most of regions of China to a certain extent,but they display a better applicability after 1979.The quality displayed by them is usuallyis better in winter than in summer,and more reliable in east area of China than in west area.The ERA-40 and the JRA-25 reanalyzed productscomparativelyshow betterapplicabilitythan the NCEP/NCAR and the NCEP/DOE counterparts.The JRA-25 can better to represent the observed climate mean,interannual variation and variabilitythan other reanalyzed products,but the ERA-40 is more superior tothe NCEP/NCAR to represent the long-term trends of climate change.
