Separation and Extraction of Glutamine

Glutamic acid often exsisted in the glutamine fermentation broth. However, the small amount of glutamic acid could not be removed by isoelectric point pre-cipitation. There were some difficulties in the separation and extraction of gluta-mine. Therefore the pretreatments of the glutamine fermentation broth using four different methods were compared. Furthermore, the conditions of treatment, the separation effect on anion and cation exchange resin and the purification methods of glutamine crystal were also investigated. As a result, the extract yield was 43.2%, similar to the result of 40% in the report of Ajinomoto Japan.
