Effects of mixed poly-fermentation on cellulase activity

The effects of the composition on cellulase activities were studied by mixed fermentation. One system was composed of Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus fumigatus, the other consisted of Aspergilluses and Candida The results showed that cellulase activities were greatly increased in comparison with the fermentation of the dual Aspergilluses inoculated in a given proportion for fermentation. Compared with sole fermentation of UA8, the activities of FPA, avicelase and cmcase were increased from 2.2% to 51.1%, from 20.7% to 332.6% and from 29.6% to 299.6% respectively. The activity of cellulase system was significantly reduced after Candida was inoculated in the mixed fermentation of the dual Aspergilluses. The peak values of enzyme production fermentation in the mixture of triple microorganisms showed a lag about 24 hours to compare with that of the dual microbes. However the difference in the peak values of cellulase was not obvious in the dual systems. The mixed fermentation of two dual microbes may be advantageous to shorten the fermentation cycle in cellulase production.
