Objective: To study the blood lipid reducing effect of Perilla frutescens seed in hyperlipoidemia model rats. Methods: Rats in treatment groups were continually given P.frutescens seed at doses of 0.8,4.2,25.0g/kgBW separately for 30 days. The serum levels of TC,TG and HDL-C of rats were examined on the 30~(th) day. Results: The serum contents of TC and TG in treated rats were markedly less than those of non-treated model group, while the level of HDL-C was not reduced. Conclusions: P.frutescens seed could reduce the level of blood lipids, except HDL-C,in rats.
