Focusing Translation Teaching On the Text Level and Its Six Advantages

The traditional way of teaching translation is limited to the levels of words and sentences, and cannot help senior English majors in Chinese colleges and universities effectively. To meet the needs of the new era, great changes must be made to the goal, content, method and means of teaching. This paper compares and contrasts the traditional way of translation teaching with the new approach of focusing translation teaching on the text level, and points out that the latter has six advantages over the former. The paper concludes that in teaching translation to senior English majors we should focus on the text rather than words and sentences.
