The Discovery of Zoophycuses in Lower Carboniferous Series in Guizhou

Wang Shangyan (Regional Geological Surveying Team of Guizhou)  
A lot of zoophycuses have been found in the Xiangbai Formation and the Jiusi Formation of Lower Carboniferous series in Londi, Guizhou. The Xiangbai Formation is composed of littoral siltstone, quartz sandstone, shale, carbonaceous shale and coal. The Jiusi Formation is composed of limestone mixed up with sandstone, silicolite and siliceous shale. The zoophycus has also been found in large numbers in bathyal deposits. The fact shows that zoophycus cannot have originated in a deep water environment. In fact, trace fossil features are not only related to sea depths, but also to bottom bed types, energy conditions,f ood supplies, preservation state, much or less oxygen and moving habits of the living things.
