Itis investigated the adiabatic compression of picosecond soliton pulses from a DFB laser operating at1 5 5 0 nm in the fibers with slowly decreasing dispersion(FSDD) . High-quality soliton compression from 4.4ps down to 83 0 fs in a 5 0 0 m (FSDD) is ob- tained.The compression factor is about5 .3 .Experimental results show that nonlinear pulse propagation in FSDD can provide a novel method to generate ultrashortpulses.
