The level of ALT could not be regarde as an indicator of HCV infection in blood donors

Objective To research the correlation between HCV infections and ALT levels in volunteer blood donors, and the feasibility of an increasing ALT as a marker of HCV infected was observed Methods SPSS software was used to analysis the ALT positive rates in HCV Pos and Neg groups, and different ALT levels influenced by a serial of factors in HCV positive groups were compared statistically Results There was not significant difference of ALT values in HCV Pos. and Neg groups( P 0 05),ALT positive rates had not a difference within sex group and age group of HCV positive( P 0 05), frequency of donation generated a significant difference( P 0 01) Conclution Frequency of donation could affect ALT levels, sex and age have no relation with ALT, there was not relationship between ALT and HCV, and ALT could not be regarded as a marker during donor’s ‘window period’ of HCV infection
