Correlation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors mRNA with clinicopathologic parameters of colorectal cancer

Objective To investigate the expressions of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs):PPARγ and PPARδ mRNA and their correlations with clinicopathologic parameters in colorectal cancer (CRC).Methods Fresh tumor tissues and matched distal normal colorectal tissues were collected from 38 CRC patients undergoing surgical operation.The expression levels of PPARγ and PPARδ mRNA were quantified by using SYBR Green Ⅰreal-time RT-PCR.Results The positive rate of PPARγ mRNA in CRC tissues was significantly higher than that in the corresponding normal colorectal tissues (52.6% vs 86.8%,P=0.001).There were no difference of PPARδ mRNA positive rates between CRC tissues and normal tissues (50.0% vs 44.7%,P=0.646).The PPARγ mRNA expressions down-regulated significantly in CRC tissues [0.0016(0,0.017)],compared to those in the corresponding normal colorectal tissues[0.011(0,0.088)](P=0.036).There were no significantly difference of PPARδ mRNA expressions between CRC tissues [0.086(0,0.24)]and normal tissues [0.052(0,0.19)] (P=0.73).The PPARγ RNA expressions were negative related with the depths of tumor invasion.However,the PPARδ mRNA expression levels were no correlations with clinicopathologic parameters.There was no correlation between PPARγ and PPARδ expressions.Conclusion Low PPARγ mRNA expression levels were related to the invasive potential of CRC.PPARδ mRNA expression was not statistically different from that in normal mucosa.There was no correlation between PPARγ and PPARδ expressions.
