Determination of trace silver with a new system of Ag(Ⅰ)-K_2S_2O_8-methylene blue

A new catalytic kinetics spectrophotometric method for the determination of trace silver has been developed in HAc-NaAc(pH=5.0) buffer medium.This method is based on the catalytic oxidation of methylene blue by potassium persulfate in the presence of 1,10-phenanthroline as an activator.The detection limit is 1.12×10-6g·L-1,the relative standard deviation is 2.3%,the linear range of determination is 0.01~0.12mg·L-1 for Ag(Ⅰ).This method has been successfully applied to determine the trace silver in water samples and silver in the solution of the black-white photographical paper.
