Analysis on the Image Reconstruction Accuracy of the EM Algorithm

In the ExpectationMaximization(EM) algorithm, the measured projections considered to be incomplete data, appropriate priori knowledge adopted, maximum likelihood estimates of pixels are found by using iterative method. The image reconstructed by this algorithm is better in the reconstruction accuracy than that reconstructed by the filtered backprojection and algebraic reconstruction techniques. In this paper, the lower bound of the variance reconstructed by EM algorithm is studied theoretically, and a simply method of finding approximate value of the variance in practice is given.
