Scavenging effects of Spirulina and polysaccharides Spirulina platensis on active oxygen species ·OH and ·O-2 generated by Fenton reaction and riboflavine photosensitization in vitro were investigated by the means of spectrophotometry. The inhibition effects of Spirulina and polysaccharides Spirulina platensis on the lipid peroxidation and damage of DNA chain induced by hydroxyl radical were observed by lipid peroxidation system mediated by FeSO4 and thiobarbituric acid spectrophotometry. The results showed that Spirulina and polysaccharides Spirulina platensis could scavenge ·OH、·O-2 efficiently. It could also significantly inhibit lipid peroxidation and damage of DNA by radical.
