Synthesis of (2-Epoxypropyl) Dodecylammonium Chloride

(2-Epoxypropyl) dodecylammonium chloride is widely used as intermediate of surfactant,for it is the combination of cationic surfactant and nonionic surfactant.In this essay,the influential factors on reaction of di-methyl-dodecyl amine with epichlorohydrin was discussed.The optimum synthetic conditions were as follows:with epichlorohydrin as solvent,the molar ratio of di-methyl-dodecyl amine to epichlorohydrin was 1:2.5,the reaction temperature was 80℃,and the reaction time was 1 h.Under above conditions,the conversion of di-methyl-dodecyl amine could reach 99.6%.The synthetic process was simple.
