THE CHARACTERISTICS AND CONTROL OF FOULING ORGANJSMS ON THE LANTERN NETS FOR CULTIVATING SCALLOPS (PEETEN MAXIMUS) IN PENGLAI AND CHAHGDAO CULTIVATING FARMS

To prevent and kill fouling organisms adhering to the lantern nets during the cultivating puiod (from the first ten days of May to this of October) of Scallops cultivation, a series of experiments were conducted in the mariculture station in Yantai from 1985~1987. The findings reveal the adhering organisms comprise 7 species of invertebrates and 8 species of algae. The adhering season happened from June to septemer. Knowing the characteristics of the organisms, We developed a paint complex with ionic copper and tin ingredients, which was proved effective in good prevention and killing of these organisms. Accumulation of copper and tininons in scallops is below the quantites allowed of in the Chinese standards for Food and Health. Moreover the ions released from the paint only slightly polluted the water for mariculture.
