Breeding of Foxtail Millet Cultivar Jigu 25 Resistant to Herbicide,Suitable for Simplified Cultivation and Corresponding Cultivation Techniques

Jigu 25,a multi-line foxtail millet cultivar which was suitable for simplified cultivation,was developed by applying the concept of multi-line cultivars and transferring the herbicide resistant gene from its wild relative species green foxtail introduced from abroad.It was composed of sethoxydim resistant variety 528-4 and its sib line 528-5 without herbicide resistance.The average yield was 5 244.3 kg/hm2 in the national regional test from 2004 to 2005,which increased by 9.62%.It was approved by the National Millet Cultivar Examination and Approval Committee in 2006.It had the characteristics of lodging resistance,drought resistance and disease resistance.The corresponding simplified cultivation technique were put forward by studying the appropriate mix ratio of sib-lines,seeding rate,herbicides and their proper spraying stage and dozen.Applying the techniques,the chemical thinning and weeding could be realized.The optimum density for the field production could be obtained around 7 days after spraying herbicides.25 days after seedling emergence,the efficiency on weeds control could be above 90%.Therefore,it was not basically necessary for artificial thinning and weeding in the whole growth period.The relevant contents in this study had been obtained the national patent(ZL 200410058088.9).
