BUILDING DAMAGE AND EXPERIENCE FROM THE 1995 HYOGOKEN NANBU EARTHQUAKE

Su Youpo Jin Shuda Liu Tianshi (Department of Civil Engineering)  
Typical types of damages of buildings subjected to the Hyogoken Nanbu earthquake are introduced.The degree of damage was shown to be closely related to the period when buildings were constructed, as evidenced by changed building codes.The weak story and the transition story are responsible for greater swaying and thereby the accumulation of damage.
