Genetic Analysis of Purpled Traits from a Generic Hybridization Between Upland Rice and Sorghum

A generic hybridization between upland rice and sorghum(Yuan FH 2-1(O.sativa)× Shennong 133(S.bicolor))was done.Traits of both purpled awn and purpled stigma were appearance in F-1 and purpled plant was appearance in F-5,respectively.These traits were not observed in both parents.Ratio of white awn to colored awn(purple-red) was 109∶343 in a population of 452 plants,suggested it was controlled by epistasis recessiveness in interaction of 2 pair of genes confirmed by χ~2-test.There was some modified genes exist according the color varied from purple to red besides principal ones.Stigma color performed either purpled or white and no moderate ones recorded.Proportion of purple stigma to white stigma was 260∶192.The ratio accorded with the genetic pattern of complementary effect of 2 pairs of genes.
