The experiment was carried out to study the effects of three mulching patterns(straw mulching after plastic film uncovered, plastic film mulching, mulching by nothing)on root activity and leaf senescence in field condition with the flue-cured tobacco(Nicotiana tabacum L.)cultivar K326 at mature period. The results showed that, compared with mulching by nothing, the root activity in the pattern of straw mulching after plastic film uncovered increased significantly, the chlorophyll content and soluble protein content of leaf were higher, the leaf protective enzyme activities were stonger and MDA content was lower, straw mulching after plastic film uncovered also could delay the flue-cured tobacco senescence, prolonged mature period and improved economic traits. The flue-cured tobacco root activity under the pattern of plastic film mulching was decreased, its leaf chlorophyll content and soluble protein content reduced remarkably, and there were a significant decline of leaf protective enzyme activities,a marked increase of leaf MDA content and a quick leaf aging.
