STUDIES ON THE PHYSIOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF MATURATION OF PEAR FRUITS

Some physiologial characteristics, the changes of respiration, ethylene emanation, pectin methyl estrase (PME) and flesh firmness of pear fruits-of two pear cultivars, Su-Li and Ya-Li (Pyrus Bretschne deri Rehd), were studied, in Jingdu Orchard of Jiangsu Province in 1988. The result shows that whethey cultivars were picked or remained on tree, both climacteric rise of respiration (CRR) of pear fruits would occur on Sept. 18 (155days from full blossom stage). It could also be seen that there were a peak of ethylene emanation and a early occurred peak of IME activity in Ya-Li Pear, but the existence of ethylene in Su-Li Pear could not be determined. The climacteric rise of respiration in late-picked fruits occurred earlier than in early-picked fruits did.
